Take Action on the Economic Stimulus Package
From Barbara Upton,
Chair of the Economic Justice Committee of New Paltz and Vicinity for Obama
Dear Friends,
The president’s new stimulus package is on the fast track in
Congress. Pelosi hopes to have it passed by next week!
Trouble is, although it has been touted as a plan for creating a new
clean and green energy future with increased development of renewable and sustainable energy, only 7% of the $825 billion is being allocated for that purpose! And only 10% is planned to rebuild our country’s crumbling infrastructure. Economists say these are the two best ways to create good paying jobs for Americans – the key to economic revitalization.
You can read a summary of the program here-

One third of the package is going for tax cuts which have been
ineffective in the past in jump starting the economy. Although some
tax relief for the middle class would be welcome, there should be no
tax cuts for corporations or the wealthiest Americans (and loop
holes that allow corporations to avoid paying their fair share of
taxes and Bush’s tax cuts for the richest should be ended now!).
Please contact your elected officials today!! Voting will happen very soon.
Let them know you want more money for job creation through green
energy and infrastucture projects and less for tax cuts.
