What Can We Do… To Support Green Energy/ Sustainability
Suggestions from our initial Change is Coming event in Kingston:
Support Grow Local green business
Increase Research and Development funding
Investigate Transition Community/Town ideas and the possibilities of ‘bulk buying power’
Reform NYSERTA – make it much more efficient and speedy
Real sense that we are coordinating with the Obama Administration in Washington!
Organize local PR campaign that describes what individuals can do on a daily basis to support sustainability.
Promote and encourage local farms and farmers. Buy locally.
Provide incentives and subsidize local farms/products
Green GI bill. Free green tech training for vets.
Training program in basic solar energy, building, permaculture
Permaculture research and dissemination of skills
End the Earl Butz/Nixon industrial farm (petro fertilizer – corn=one crop=bad)
A clearinghouse in Ulster County with resources available – water, recycling
Get subsidies to create natural compressed gas pumps at gas stations
Demand European style diesel cars on the market along with new promotion of its benefits
more mpg = less oil used as job #1
Electric cars will come later
Bring back benefits in tax reductions on energy efficient improvement to old houses
Increase employment – bring architects together who are interested in green architecture – train to procide skills in green – they will produce jobs
